Turkish-Style Onion & Sumac Salad Recipe
If you’re in the mood for a side-dish that is refreshing and crunchy, try this Turkish-style onion & sumac salad recipe!
My favorite way to devour this salad is by putting it in a pitta wrap with a spicy kebab. When one thinks of Turkish food, spiced meats and delicious meze come to mind.
You can enjoy this Turkish-style onion and sumac salad recipe both as an appetizer or as an accompaniment to a main meal. If you’re an onion fan like I am, then be sure to load copious amounts of this salad onto a bed of couscous. (It’s the best!)
My fusion dish with Moroccan inspired chicken and couscous already has onion in it, but who’s to say you can’t add more?
Sumac is a lemony spice that comes from a flowering plant. It is widely used throughout the world and I began using it in many of my dishes as a teenager. Now, it’s a pantry staple and a definite must have.
If you want to give this salad some extra tang, squeeze over half a lime and mix the salad well. Also, this recipe calls for parsley, but if you prefer using cilantro, go right ahead!
When slicing the onions, I recommend using a mandoline to ensure the slices are even, but no worries if you don’t have one. Just take your sharpest knife and slice carefully.
